GEORGE SINOVICH
FOUNDER / DIRECTOR
My grandfather, Nick Karras, grew up in the port of Piraeus, Greece and shared his passion for the sea with my mother. The family immigrated to South Africa in the early 1920s and settled in Pretoria, where he opened the Star Café on Church Square.
After university, I joined my father in his coal transporting company. As a sideline, I started transporting fish and this lead me into the fish wholesale business.
In 1992, I established The Codfather, now recognised as one of this country’s most iconic restaurants.
